Some pods are more interesting than others. Here is my twin dedo de moça.

A new project
Yesterday I got my ZENGROW, a "tabletop garden".
So today my new project started. I took cuttings from my tulsi, basil and peppermint and placed them in the device. I have many more ideas what to grow in it, but in order to get some experience I think this is the perfect start.
I will keep you updated on the progress.
Have a nice weekend!

Thank you for these two years - Tabasco
I'm sort of half-panicking about how to reclaim the space in the flat... So after the dedo de moça and habanero, it was time to say bye bye to the tabasco.
It's really a very nice plant. But it was too big. So it had to go. But Capsicum frutescens is good. It has the "peppery" taste, quite high heat, and I love the way it attacks my tongue. It's not like any other Capsicum. This heat is in a way "mean", massaging your tongue, not letting go.
The question. What to do with the harvested peppers. I think I will dry most of them. The thin flesh of the tabasco makes it not so suitable for freezing, so it will be great to dry. But I think I will put some of them in vinegar and/or oil for future use. Nice problems :-)
Tabasco chiles on a tabasco tray :-)
Have a nice week!
Hot regards,
Mats

Another day at Het Höst
We couldn't stay away today. While Patricia is on a business trip, Carl and I decided to go out to Bergianska. Here we are just outside.
Me and Apan (Monkey) outside, in front of the magnificent Capsicum pubescens.
We went inside to say hello to my good old chilepiquin. I'm sure it doesn't miss our home at all, with all the new chile pepper friends. Not to mention how well Kaili takes care of all these plants :-) Here it is, and I was happy to see some new ripe pods.
A basket with hot stuff.
Carl is tall, but this baccatum is taller :-)
Here we are, Mats, Patrik & Kaili. (Yes, it's Apan in my pocket :-)
One of Carls favorites. He's becoming a good chile pepper photographer :-)
Maybe it's hard to see on this picture, but look at all the different colours and shapes. It's beautiful!
More beauty :-)
And a canario, one of my favorites. Yes, I know, I call many varieties for my favorite. But it's true!
More beauty!
And more ....
And more ... :-)
Carl checking the size of this pumpkin...
I don't remember what this is, but the light made them very special.
Our friend Apan taking a break on the way home.

Picking peppers
I'm running out of patience with the big plants. Especially the two year old habanero and dedo de moça. So today I decided to take them away. Not an easy decision, but I need to make space for the plants next year.
Here is the stem from the habanero. Carl saved pieces of it to play with.
And here are the pods. I counted them. 128. I don't know how many hundred pods I have picked earlier, but it has been a fantastic chile pepper year!
Next one to be harvested was the dedo de moça. It's the same height as Carl, and he's 155 cm tall...
And here is how the stems look like.
And here is parts of the harvest. Yes, there are some green ones. I don't think they are as good as the red. But they will make a great green powder.
Drying the green ones...
One thing I have learned with chiles is to not rub my eyes after doing this kind of work...
While I'm writing this, there is a heavenly smell from the dryer. More later.
Hot regards,
Mats

Het Höst (Hot Autumn)
It was a beautiful Thursday afternoon, when I went out to the opening of the Het Höst exhibition. It is now 11 years since the first Het Höst. Patrik has some pictures on his blog here: http://chilepeppar.blogspot.com/2010/01/het-host.html (You can see an 11 year younger me there :-)
A big rocoto welcomed me outside the exhibition.
The exhibition is a joint effort between Bergianska Trädgården and Svenska Chilepepparföreningen.
We all got a hot welcome. Here you see a pimiento de piquillo (red), cracker with cheese and a Hot Lemon (yellow) and a nice candy with bhut jolokia powder :-)
After the hot start, we walked around in the orangerie, looking at all the beautiful shapes, colours and styles of chiles. Following is just a few examples.
An impressive bhut jolokia. I would almost call it a tree :-)
And some nice chinense.
A piece of the rocoto corner.

If you happen to come to Stockholm - don't miss this exhibition! A great opportunity to check out nice chile plants, and to meet great people!
Have a nice weekend!
