Carolina Reaper

Hi!

Phew! I received a gift from a friend. A hot sauce. Not just any hot sauce. It was the Reaper Squeezins.

How hot could it be? Carl and I had a sample of it on a teaspoon, and I can guarantee it was a hot one :-) Patricia used a potato tester, and even though we couldn't see any sauce on it, she was burning.

Phew, I don't know how to handle this one. One drop at a time maybe :-)

Chipotle

Hi!

We were happy to find this chipotle sauce today. Tried it for dinner. It was really good with the (sort of) patatas bravas that I made. A nice addition to my hot sauce "collection".

Too hot, I gave up

It doesn't happen very often. But today I gave up. Gave up eating because it was too hot.

These chile pickles totally knocked my socks off.

OK, it says extra hot on the jar. But my experience is that it's relative, and many sauces from the western world use that more or less as marketing :-) I should have understood that it  more was to be considered as a warning. This brand is from Bangladesh.

Anyway - I must say that the taste was great! It's just that I don't know how to consume it :-)

Aci biber sosu

My Turkish is not so good, but I think this translates to Hot Pepper Sauce :-)

I got this sauce from my friend Mikael, who was in Istanbul a while ago. I'm used to the Mexican and Brazilian hot sauces, but this one was a little different. I enjoyed the distinct and peppery taste. It was hot, but not too hot.

Now I need to figure out in which cooking it fits best. A nice task!

Pure!

Hi!

The other day when I was exploring the neighborhood around the place where I now work, I found a hot sauce shop. At that time it was closed, but today they were open. And I found these two great companions.

Pure jalapeño and pure habanero red savina. What great names! The jalapeno sauce was absolutely great, and the habanero was also fantastic, but super hot. I think that one might even be hard to handle :-)

Old pictures

It's a rainy evening and I'm going through some old pictures...

These three shows what I brought home from a trip to Texas in 1996. I am happy to have big feet, because I could stuff at least some of the hot sauce bottles in my shoes that I packed in my suitcase. But I still had a super heavy hand luggage... And my check in bag was on the limit what was allowed. But, it worked! Everything came home with me, without breaking a bottle :-)

Picture below: I remember two favorites. Melinda's is one of them. And that other bottle to the right - Holy City Heat - hot sauce. Yum!

La costeña cans. Makes my mouth water! Pickled serranos! Phew! Nice!

Hot regards

Rocoto paste

I did not grow any pubescens this year, so I was extra happy when I found this one! Good stuff!

I think it could more or less be used on anything!

Pickled malaguetas

My malaguetas didn't make it this season. But we found this nice bottle the other day.

The malagueta taste is great, and they mix perfectly well with the vinegar.

You know you're a chilehead when .....

... you go on a cruise to Tallinn, and everyone buys loads of alcohol and cigarettes, and you call out - WOW! A habanero hot sauce!!! - in the taxfree shop of the ship :-)

I just tasted it, and it had the typical habanero flavor, with a very distinct heat!

A couple of pictures from Tallinn.

I wonder if this dragon sampled some habanero sauce :-)

Have a great remaining of the week!

New sauce

Thanks to my friend Mikael who gave this one to me :-)

It's a really nice serrano sauce! Not very hot, but it has that great tex-mex taste!

Good on all the food you see :-)

Have a great week!

Five sauces - some new

My heart made a couple of extra beats when I saw the El Yucateco - Exxxtra picante - Salsa kutbil-ik de (what that now means??). But I believe it's a hot one. I think I sampled it many years ago. So it will be nice to try it again.

And being a great fan of chipotles, I was very happy to find the El Yucateco chipotle sauce!

And - the three different D'ELidas habanero sauces! How great! I will let you know later what I think about them!

Wishing you all a nice weekend!

We have a new favorite sauce / paste

I stumbled over this one, and being a rocoto fan, I couldn't resist to buy it.

It's a really good one. Quite hot, with that special taste of rocotos. Our current favorite in the fridge :-)

La Latina - Salsa de rocoto

Sauces are interesting! Many years ago I had the whole fridge full with sauces. But these days, I have just a few. i call them my Greatest Hits collection.

One nice sauce that I have enjoyed lately is this rocoto sauce. I planned to take a picture of it when it was full, but I guess we finished it too fast. Anyway, I can recommend this one, though I usually try to avoid sauces with too many preservatives and E-numbers and things like that. This one was very nice.

Hot sauce regards,
